This classic Kenya safari takes you though the length and breadth of Kenya’s top safari destinations. Starting out in Nairobi, tour the central highlands with the highlight being spending the night in a tree hotel. Then you’ll travel further North to the semi arid and beautiful Samburu area where you’ll possibly meet up with the colorful Samburu people, close cousins to the Maasai. Later, tour the rhino sanctuary followed by the world famous Lake Nakuru, award winning Masai Mara and Amboseli.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi
Upon arrival at JKIA and after finalizing with immigration and customs, you will be met by our customer service representative who will welcome you to Kenya. They’ll give you a short brief on what to expect before transferring you to your city hotel. Check in on arrival and settle in for the night.
Incase of a morning or midday arrival, guests have the option of taking a city tour, museum visit or any other excursion at extra cost.

Day 2: Nairobi-Aberdare
After breakfast, depart for the drive to the lush foothills of the Aberdare Ranges to arrive for lunch at the hotel.
After lunch, drive to the nearby Solio Ranch for an afternoon of game viewing. Solio is world re-known for having one of biggest herds of the endangered black rhinos as well as the white ones. Its also from here that most of rhinos in Africa have been restocked from their successful breeding program. Return to the hotel for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 3: Aberdare-Samburu Game Reserve
This morning, drive further north of Kenya to Samburu Game Reserve which is within the land of the colourful Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai. It harbours a number of wildlife species found only north of the equator. It offers unique vistas of rounded and rugged hills and undulating plains. The mix of wood and grassland with riverine forest and swamp is home to a wide variety of animals and birdlife. Lunch is served at the lodge and later in the afternoon, proceed on a game viewing drive until sunset.

Day 4: Samburu Game Reserve
Spend the day in the reserve where game viewing and visibility is excellent. Birdlife is superb with over 380-recorded species and game which includes reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, elephants, oryx, Somali ostrich, hippos, crocodiles, gerenuks, buffaloes, lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas. The long-necked gerenuk is a graceful antelope which spends much of its time in a bi-pedal stance seeking succulence among the withered scrub which dots this harsh terrain. Relief comes from the Ewaso Ng’iro River which rises some hundreds of kilometers to the west on the foothills of the Aberdare. It vanishes beyond Samburu in the recess of the Lorian Swamp.

Day 5: Samburu Game Reserve-Ol Pejeta Conservancy
After breakfast, have a morning drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a beautiful private game reserve and home to rare species such as Beisa oryx, Rothschild’s giraffe and black rhino. Game drives here reveal the full range of African wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and hippo. Visit and observe chimps from the Jane Goodall Institute at the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Other optional activities include bird walks with several hundred species to observe, horseback and camel rides (at an extra cost).

Day 6: Ol Pejeta Conservancy-Lake Naivasha
After breakfast and check-out, drive down to Lake Naivasha which is the first of the Rift Valley lakes and is set at the foot of Mount Longonot, on the north side. It was on Lake Naivasha that East Africa’s first air passengers used to land in the flying boats of Imperial Airways. After lunch at the lodge, enjoy a walk by the shores of the lake, take a boat ride followed by a visit to Crescent Island for a chance to walk in the wild.

Day 7: Lake Naivasha-Masai Mara
Travel to Masai Mara National Reserve, so named to mean the “spotted plains” in Maa language. This is home to the greatest concentration of large mammals and is widely recognized as Africa’s ultimate wildlife reserve. The park is famous for its annual migration of wildebeest. Transfer to the lodge with a game drive en route and after check-in, enjoy a hot lunch. Later in the evening, enjoy a game viewing drive in this spectacular place of breathtaking sceneries, never-ending plains and the most abundant variety of wildlife remaining anywhere in the world. The landscape is made up of rolling savanna dotted with patchy shrubs and bush thickets.

Day 8: Masai Mara
During your stay, you’ll have the opportunity to explore this great reserve in depth. You may see elephant, giraffe, prides of lion, and thousands of impala, topi, Grants and Thomson’s gazelle. Birds are prolific including immigrants, 450 bird species have been recorded among them 57 birds of prey. The Mara is the scene of annual migration of millions of wildebeest up from the Serengeti plains in search of water and grasses. You get a chance to visit a Maasai tribal village and enjoy entertainment by Maasai dancers. While in Mara, you will have the option to float above the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem on board a hot air balloon followed by a gourmet champagne breakfast (options at an extra cost).

Day 9: Masai Mara-Nairobi
Enjoy an early morning game drive before returning to camp for breakfast, check out and drive to Nairobi. Enjoy the views of the Rift Valley escarpments from the valley floor with Mount Longonot and Suswa dominating the landscape. Arrive Nairobi for lunch at a local restaurant before settling for the night.

Day 10: Nairobi-Amboseli
After early breakfast, drive south east of Nairobi to Amboseli National Park. The park is famous for its big game and scenic beauty with the landscape dominated by Mt. Kilimanjaro. It offers an interesting contrast with its dry and dusty appearance which can be attributed to the volcanic ash that came out of Mt Kilimanjaro when it last erupted. In spite of the appearance, there is a continuous supply of water that gets filtered through volcanic rocks from Kilimanjaro’s melted snow. These streams flow underground, creating lush green areas, and converge at two clear water springs in the park.

Day 11 : Amboseli
Spend a further day in the park on morning and afternoon game viewing drives. Wildlife here includes the zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, impala, caracal and serval cat, lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo among others. There are also over 400 species of birds, including the bee-eater, kingfisher, African fish eagle, martial eagle and pygmy falcon. Visitors mainly come to watch the huge herds of elephants. The bull elephants have some of the largest tusks in all of Kenya. Visitors can also enjoy excellent views of Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru.

Day 12: Ambrose-Nairobi
On a clear morning, wake up to uninterrupted and clear views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru peak glistering in the morning sunlight. Enjoy your breakfast followed by check out and departure for Nairobi. Drive across the open plains of Amboseli and Athi to Nairobi.
